Sleep Paralysis
Anyone on here ever suffered from this? I tend to go through stages where I get it reasonably frequently, then nothing for months (or even years) and then it returns.

It's always the same; invariably I've woken up before I need to get up, and begin to drift off back to sleep. When I'm in that semi conscious state between awake and asleep I am aware of my body but am completely paralysed. Can't move a single part of me or make any noise at all. Incredibly disturbing, and accompanied with a demon like presence that attacks me and I am unable to move, or.defend myself. I don't feel any pain, just utter fear. I sometimes remember consciously telling myself during these experiences that it isn't real and I can't get hurt, and then I can somehow manage to click out of it and fully wake up, but it's incredibly vivid.

Never really mentioned it to anyone before but there seems to have been a huge amount of research done on it and it appears to be very common!

Anyone else experienced this, or are you all just so hard that you fight off demons despite your paralysed state?

Re: Sleep Paralysis
Don't get the demon part though. Avoiding sleeping on my back helps and I am also aware enough to tell myself to calm down and wake up. It's horrible

Re: Sleep Paralysis
I sometimes have to get out of bed for a piss.

That can sometimes be traumatic, if my mrs wakes up and finds me wandering around the place, looking for the toilet.

Re: Sleep Paralysis
Used to get it a lot, you describe it accurately as far as I'm concerned. Isn't it when your mind is too active to turn off.

Re: Sleep Paralysis
Yes i had this many years ago. Was just drifting off to sleep and became aware of a pressure on my chest, took all my strength to turn my head and instantly wished I hadn't.

I saw a cloaked figure looming out my chest, and was hunched over me talking at me but couldn't understand it. Lasted about ten minutes till it finally seemed to drift up and away, was left still paralysed till I could finally sit up.

Was the most terrifying moment of my life.

Re: Sleep Paralysis
My 'demon' is either down the side of the bed, or sitting on my legs or chest. Remember exactly the same of desperately trying to move my head to see it.

I Googled it, and some of the images they return are frighteningly accurate. Amazing how so many people can go through almost identical subconscious experiences.

Re: Sleep Paralysis
Had it very severely for several days when I got back from Ibiza this year, always get it after taking pills. My mrs was watching me in my sleep whilst it was going on she said I was sort of fitting she thought I was gonna croak. Other than that I only get it when I sleep on my back.

Get a very mild version, usually when laying on my back. usually hour or so before I have to get up. Know I need to look at clock but just can't move/turn head. Weird

Re: Sleep Paralysis
And I always get it when I'm night fishing, it will seem as if my bite alarm Is going off but obviously I can't move to get to it. A strange mix of dreaming and consciousness

That 'fit' was obviously you desperately trying to wake yourself up. Very unpleasant!

Do you smoke cannabis frequently and do you find the 'night terrors' occur on the occasions that you don't smoke?

It's very common for regular pot smokers.
